In a quiet suburban street south of Brisbane City, nestled within the Tarragindi Valley, we’ve collaborated with our client to sub-divide their property into two individual allotments. Our initial goal was to create an elegant street presence. However, due to the street’s downward slope from the road, combined with height restrictions and project requirements, there was a risk that the development might appear as two small single-story dwellings.

To address this challenge and enhance the scale of the project, each dwelling was designed with a similar built form, albeit with completely contrasting materials and architectural styles to give each home its unique identity. A key feature of this design was the strategic addition of a pop-up roof, which not only provided additional height and presence along the street front but also allowed for a minimalist approach to the rooflines, offering a sleek and modern aesthetic. This outcome not only enhanced the overall appearance of the homes but also provided an opportunity for a diverse use of materials, further enriching the architectural landscape of the neighbourhood.
